Cemetery grounding

Gabrielle Riant

After spending a week in Almada, Gabrielle realized that the city has something very valuable that Lisbon no longer has: wild nature. The biodiversity must be preserved and stimulated for social, health, environmental and economic reasons. The ‘syndrome of lack of experience’ often pushes city dwellers to dissociate themselves from environmental problems. It is difficult to understand something when it is not visible. How can awareness of the ecosystem be maintained and stimulated among the population of Almada? Gabrielle chose to situate her project in the cemetery: a place where every part of the food chain can be shown. Her podcast visualizes what could be done in the cemetery to improve the relationship between the people of Almada and their ecosystem.
