Bookmaking is activism

Gabrielle Riant

The anarchist past of Almada has made it into an active city thanks to the people, the communities and the values they share. What about activism and the forms it can take? What role does rebellion play in this city? Gabrielle observed the different forms that activism can take in Almada and found out that libraries are particularly interesting. These places allow us to archive a struggle and are essential elements for the construction of a community. They also transmit knowledge. A community should be able to materialize their ideas. Her project, in partnership with the Centro de Cultura Libertaria, allows the members of the association to make books themselves. It creates and perpetuates a knowledge specific to local issues. It respects their anarchist values and attempts to rebuild a system without hierarchy.
